And if you don’t put energy into those 2-3 besties, you will let them slip away. Without energy, no energy will come back to you in return. One has to keep feeding the flames to keep the warmth coming. Otherwise, ‘the fire burns low and is ill attended’, it says in Ananda’s Festival of Light. If you want warmth, then you have to share warmth. Yet if you don’t keep the fire stoked, that warmth will turn cold and damp, nurturing no one. A work can die for lack of warmth. Don’t let the embers of friendship turn into cold lumps of charcoal. Stoke the flames now, before they go out. Remember, ‘if you can’t hold the love of even one person, how do you expect to attract the love of God?’”
