Dear Divine Ma,

What Do You Want Me to Learn Today?

“What all felt most important in the shrines you visited in Assisi?”

Well, the first was the Porziuncola. I was struck by the perseverance and complete surrender to God’s will it took for Francis to rebuild that first church. And the spot of his death was a place in which I felt proud of him, about what he had accomplished with his short but focused life. The second place was in Santa Chiara’s church, where the crucifix which first ‘spoke’ to Francis still hangs. I was unexpectedly moved by the feeling of sanctity I found there. And I was impressed once again by the silence and devotion exhibited by the tourists visiting these shrines. Then there was the empty tomb which had held Chiara’s body for over 600 years. It has had its lid returned beside the open tomb. What I felt was extreme upliftment mixed with complete self-surrender. OM.
