Dear Divine Ma,
What Do You Want Me to Learn Today?
My priorities are misplaced. Yes, I blame my ego. But what to do about it?
“’Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, mind, soul and strength, and thy neighbor as thyself.’ No one has ever improved on that advice—on that goal for life’s actions. It is the only way out of the ego. It is the perfect remedy.”
But how few of us ever attempt to apply that famous dictum?
“Ah, that’s the rub. Application, Willpower. It’s seldom a lack of knowing. It’s so often merely a lack of doing. One must want to improve beyond the static confines of the ego. Yet so few truly want to expand beyond that hide-bound border between ego and soul. It seems nutty and oddly quaint, even irrelevant to so-called modern minds, to hold oneself back, to exert self-control. Yet without self-control, humankind never rises in one’s consciousness above the lowly animals. And that way is not a particularly noble path— ‘even the publican’s do the same.’”
