Dear Divine Ma,

What Do You Want Me to Learn Today?

As I write today it happens to be both Holi, in India, and Master’s Mahasamadhi. Mahasamadhi reminds us that there is a goal in life. That goal is Self-realization. The oneness of our soul with the Limitless Oneness of All. We must find that Reality within and all around us. Our daily sadhanas are only meant as practice for the final conscious exit from the body. We all must exit these fleshly prisons eventually. As Swamiji used to joke, ‘None of us are getting out of here alive.’ Our job is to learn how to exit consciously. Each morning when we do our sadhana and sit in the silence, we must not retreat into passivity. The exit we are practicing is active, dynamic, a self-offering, yes, but not an abject surrender. We can’t ‘give up’ in our efforts if we expect to find the Oneness. Rather, we must put everything we’ve got into the effort to ‘give ourselves’ to the Sacred Lord, to the Light of the universe. God wants us to join with Him, with Her. But we must completely want it with every ounce of our being.
