Dear Divine Ma,

What Do You Want Me to Learn Today?

When Swamiji teaches us to meditate with lifted chest and erect head, he is merely prepping us for what deep meditation will do to our body naturally. Sometimes we hear the advice to take the position for meditation as if a string were attached to the sternum and the top of the head, and as if those strings were pulling you gently upright. It true! This is exactly what the body wants to do when we go deep enough in sadhana. And it’s true that the spiritual eye is seen behind closed eyelids when our eyes are raised as if looking at a mountain top in the distance. But what’s “seen” there seems often as if it’s only the bottom or base of a tall column of bright light that goes oh so much taller straight up far into the sky above us. Is this the Bible’s “the Light that shineth in darkness?” Is this our staircase to return back to God? This column of Light feels like the descent of grace that all people seek. I suspect the Masters may never be without its sight.
