Dear Divine Ma,

What Do You Want Me to Learn Today?

One of the best experiences of my most recent visit to Assisi was a new-to-me find: the side altar called the Immaculata in the cathedral of Saint Francis. There the 400-year-old statue of the mother of Jesus still exists where, for 14 years, Joseph of Cupertino would go every night to pray. My forehead, spine, and chest were all lifted into an extreme stillness of body, mind, and soul. The whole chapel, though only an out-of-the-way side alcove, was architected to induce an uplift of consciousness high into the narrow architecture of its soaring ceiling high above us. It was a magnificent experience of deep stillness and upliftment.
